Enquadramento
Industrial systems are becoming more connected and smarter, but this growth also increases security risks. One major challenge ahead is the quantum decryption threat, the possibility that future quantum computers could easily break today’s encryption methods. To stay ahead, we need stronger, quantum-resistant ways to protect industrial data. This Master's project will focus on identifying the best Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) mechanisms to secure data in Industrial Control Systems (ICS).
The project will test different PQC mechanisms with communication protocols commonly used in industry, evaluating solutions that are not only secure but also practical for real-world ICS environments, including IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things) devices.
Objetivo
The goals are:
- Validate Hybrid Cryptographic solutions.
- Validate Post Quantum Cryptography in ICS scenarios
Additionally, the results can be published in a scientific publication.
Plano de Trabalhos - Semestre 1
T1.1 – Analysis of the PQC Algorithms.
T1.2 – Analysis of communication protocols used in Industrial Communication Systems.
T1.3 – Analysis of the standards, recommendations for crypto agility (using classical and Post Quantum cryptography).
T1.4 – Write the intermediary report.
Plano de Trabalhos - Semestre 2
Task 2.1: Test PQC Algorithms with Industrial Communication Protocols.
Task 2.2: Recommend the Best PQC-based Encryption Strategies for ICS.
Task 2.3: Write the final report and scientific publication.
Condições
The student will have access to all the computational resources necessary to carry out the work. A workspace at CISUC (Centre for Informatics and Systems of the University of Coimbra) will also be made available. Evaluation through simulation may be carried out using the computational resources available in the department.
