The iTEAM project involves the design of an Urban Modeling and Simulation platform. To achieve realistic predictions, it is fundamental to make systematic data collection using several technologies: smartphones, home sensors, web surveys and static data (e.g. from INE).
This project intends to develop the mobile logger for iTEAM, which need to be non-intrusive, easy to use and light on battery consumption, three constraints that are extremely challenging.
The role of the student in this project is to develop the logger application and its integration in the general iTEAM platform.
Objetivo
The goal of the project is to develop an application for Android for logging of GPS points as well as cell-phone tower and wifi based localization information. This application needs to communicate regularly such data to a centralized database. A second phase consists of building a browser-based application to fill (at home) other important information, such as activity performed and cost.
Plano de Trabalhos - Semestre 1
The tentative plan for this project (semester 1) is the following:
- October 15th – State of the art (1.5 months)
- October 31st - Understanding previous work in the lab (1 month)
- November 30th - Creation of the first prototype, that is able to log all data and communicate to the server (2 months)
- December 15th – Testing and validation (1 month)
- January 15th - Improvement of application (2 months)
- February 15th - Intermediate report. Plan for new developments on the system of the following semester. New resources, Further experimentation. (1 month)
Plano de Trabalhos - Semestre 2
The tentative plan for this project (semester 2) is the following:
- April 30th - Development of browser application - trace editor (2 months)
- May 31th - Development of browser application - further information as required by iTEAM. Paper submission (1 month)
- June 30th - MSc thesis delivery. (1 month)

Will to communicate in English with other researchers is also important.
