Artistic behavior is one of the most celebrated qualities of the human mind. Although artistic manifestations vary from culture to culture, dedication to artistic tasks is common to all. In other words, artistic behavior is a universal trait of the human species [1]. The current, Western definition of art is relatively new. However, a dedication to artistic endeavors – such as the embellishment of tools, body ornamentation, or gathering of unusual, arguably aesthetic, objects – can be traced back to the origins of humanity. That is, art is ever-present in human history and prehistory [2]. In the words of Leonardo da Vinci “Art is the Queen of all sciences communicating knowledge to all the generations of the world”.
We consider that creativity, emotion, the perception of beauty and artistic behavior are fundamental aspects of Intelligence and that, as such, Artificial Intelligence approaches that ignore these aspects miss an important part of what makes us Humans. Additionally, “If machines could understand and affect our perceptions of beauty and happiness, they could touch people’s lives in fantastic new ways” (Hugo Liu).
Objetivo
As
the title indicates this thesis seeks: to grasp a deeper understanding
of
artistic creative behavior; to study and develop models that may capture
essential aspects of beauty, emotional response and creativity; and
ultimately
to develop intelligent agents that implement these models.

Step 4 - Thesis and work plan proposal

Step 5 - Development of a platform for Computational Creativity adequate for the research plan of the proposal.
Fase 6 - Experimentation and Analysis.

7 - Writing of the Thesis.
Fase 8 - Scientific paper.
Condições
The candidate will be integrated in the team of researchers of the Cognitive Media Systems Group of CISUC.
