Enquadramento
The Institute for Systems Engineering and Computers at Coimbra (INESC-Coimbra) is working on the development of an end-to-end service for monitoring water quality in marine environments. The user/client will benefit from real-time data of water quality and personalized alerts when it is forecasted that changes in water may affect their needs in the next few days. The master student will perform the internship at INESC-Coimbra and will be part of the team responsible for the development of this project.
Objetivo
The student will participate in the development of an innovative system capable of reporting, integrating, and validating georeferenced data in real-time related to marine environments and water quality. When are foreseen situations that could put at risk the production of aquaculture, the system to be developed will emit alerts with a few days in advance, so that preventive measures can be taken, preventing losses.
This innovative system will consist of the following modules:
1. Clients management module: registration, deletion, login, permissions and features, etc..
2. Module for in-situ data storage and distribution: this module must be capable of store data collected by sensors and make it available to the system users and to other modules of the same system.
3. Satellite data collection module: download and storage of satellite data and derived products provided by several agencies (e.g. NASA).
4. Water quality monitoring module: implementation of data science and data fusion techniques to produce validated real-time water quality information and early warnings.
5. Map server to enable display of geographical information.
This internship will be focused on interconnecting the multiple modules on a single coherent system and on developing the #1, #2 and #5 modules.
This work will be integrated in the collective efforts of project team and will receive contributions from other team members.
Plano de Trabalhos - Semestre 1
- Define the requirements of the system (1.5 months);
- Define the architecture of the system (1.5 months);
- Start implementing the system (1 month)
- Write intermediate report (1 month);

- Finish system implementation (2 months);
- Test and evaluate performance (1 months);
- Write final report (1 month);
Condições
The work should take place at INESC-Coimbra.
Observações
The student will receive payment. The duration and form of payment will be negotiated between INESC-C and the student.
