Enquadramento
Modern automotive systems extensively depend on software to implement a wide range of functionalities, from comfort to driver-assistance systems. This reliance on software has led to an increase in the number of microprocessors within a vehicle, contributing to greater complexity, increased weight, and higher cost. To address these challenges, automakers are exploring new technologies, such as virtualization and integration, to reduce cost and complexity.
Several players in the industry have proposed their own set of software components (e.g., operating system, hypervisor, communication protocols) and platforms to streamline the development and deployment of software-based automotive systems, giving rise to the concept of Software-Defined Vehicles (SDVs). However, these software components must provide strict assurances of availability, safety, and security, given the safety-critical nature of automotive systems.
Objetivo
The objectives of this dissertation are:
- Preparation of a setup using a software platform for (e.g., EB Corbos) future-generation automotive vehicles
- Evaluation of the setup according to a set of realistic use scenarios (e.g., evaluate isolation, network performance, etc.) and safety/security metrics
Plano de Trabalhos - Semestre 1
T1 (M1-M3): Review of the state-of-the-art in software platforms and technologies used for automotive systems
T2 (M4): Initial steps in preparing the setup using a software platform (e.g., EB Corbos)
T3 (M5): Writing the intermediate report
Plano de Trabalhos - Semestre 2
T4 (M6-M7): Complete setup started in Task T2
T5 (M7-M9): Prepare and evaluate the setup according to a set of case studies (e.g., evaluate intra-VM isolation, jitter, network performance, etc.)
T6 (M10-M11): Writing the final report
Condições
This dissertation will be co-supervised by Dr. João Almeida (Instituto de Telecomunicações - Universidade de Aveiro) and by Eng. Gonçalo Almeida (Critical Software).
