Enquadramento
The Berth Allocation Problem (BAP), the Tugboat Scheduling Problem (TSP) and the Quay Crane Assignment and Scheduling Problem (QCASP) are fundamental and inherently interconnected problems in the domain of container terminal operations.
It involves the integrated planning of three interrelated resources: the berth positions where vessels are moored, the tugboat scheduling and the quay cranes (QCs) used for container handling.
This proposal results from some of the tasks of the ongoing NEXUS project.
Objetivo
The objective is to determine optimal berthing positions and time windows for a set of vessels within a fixed planning horizon, while simultaneously assigning and scheduling a tugboat to berth the vessel and quay cranes to handle the loading and unloading operations.
Solving these three problems independently can lead to inefficiencies, as the outcome of berth allocation directly constrains the availability of tugboats and flexibility of crane scheduling. These problems, therefore, must be tackled in an integrated framework to ensure global consistency and optimal utilization of terminal resources.
