Enquadramento

As Smart Cities evolve, the seamless integration of geospatial data and digital models is becoming increasingly critical. This internship will focus on understanding and aligning GIS standards (including OGC protocols), spatial data structures, and interoperability mechanisms with the needs of urban-scale digital modeling. By exploring the intersection of GIS, BIM, and open-source tools, the internship will contribute to enhancing Ubiwhere's capabilities in creating scalable, standards-compliant, and integrable solutions for Smart City platforms.

Objetivo

This internship aims to provide a comprehensive overview of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) standards — with a focus on Spatial Information (SIG), map formats, and the role of the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC). The student will investigate how these standards connect with Building Information Modeling (BIM), proprietary tools like ArcGIS, and open-source platforms.

Plano de Trabalhos - Semestre 1

1. Study SIG Fundamentals and GIS Standards
Learn the basics of Spatial Information Systems (SIG), spatial data models (vector, raster), and review key GIS standards, especially those from the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC).
2. Analyse Interoperability and Data Exchange
Investigate how GIS systems ensure interoperability, focusing on map data formats, web services (WMS, WFS), and how data flows across different platforms.
3. Explore BIM and GIS Integration
Study Building Information Modeling (BIM) basics and how GIS and BIM systems integrate, with attention to standards like IFC, CityGML, and GeoBIM.

4. Investigate Open Source GIS Tools
Install and test tools like QGIS, PostGIS, and GeoServer, assessing their capabilities, OGC compliance, and suitability for BIM-GIS integration.
5. Conduct Case Study Review or Technical Evaluation
Select and analyse real-world examples (or run simple demo projects) showing integration of GIS with BIM using tools like ArcGIS or QGIS.
6. Write Final Dissertation
Synthesise all research and findings into a well-structured dissertation, including the state of the art, technical evaluations, and conclusions.
