Colour is one of the key elements of design vocabulary across all disciplines. The possibilities for choosing and combining colours — whether on paper, textiles, production materials or screens — is endless. Therefore, study of colour theory is an important element of design education. Students need to understand the physical properties of colour; be able to apply technical aspects of colour reproduction; principles of harmony and contrast of hues, brightness, saturation and temperature; and the cultural significance, emotional effect, and practical use of colour. Although many books on colour theory exist, multimedia tools that can help teachers introduce these thematic areas are welcome.
Since the arrival of the pandemic in 2019, remote learning and hybrid teaching models have been used in contemporary education at all levels. Short videos are a useful tool for teachers, especially in 'flipped classroom' methodologies, in which students watch videos that communicate theoretical material in their own time, that can then be discussed in detail or explored in exercises in the classroom. The intention of this project is to create a short video to introduce undergraduate design students to the fundamental principles of colour theory for design.
Objetivo
The objective of this thesis is to produce a short video on colour theory that is relevant for undergraduate design students and that uses a correspondingly engaging and contemporary visual/cinematic language. The video should use a dynamic and graphic visual style combined with a clear and concise narrative that introduces the key areas of colour theory as outlined above. It should use a combination of original imagery, (diagrams, animations, new footage) and archive footage or imagery that is not subject to copyright. In order to test whether the video satisfactorily communicates the key ideas of colour theory, it should be screened with both teachers and students.
Plano de Trabalhos - Semestre 1
1. Literature review on the main areas of colour theory in order to define the content and narrative of the video;
2. State of the art on short form educational videos and documentaries aimed at the target audience;
3. Written synopsis of the video.
4. Storyboard and indicative graphic elements produced

1. Full-script
2. Shooting of original footage, creation of motion graphics or animations
3. Recording of spoken narration and/or foley sounds
4. Production of first version
5. Screening with audience
6. Refinements and post-production
Condições
Student must have experience of audiovisual production and motion graphics. Drawing and writing capabilities will be important for the creation of the script and storyboard.
