Enquadramento
Computation plays an increasingly dominant role in people's lives. Both artistic expression and graphic design seek to adapt to this ever-evolving world ruled by a computer-based culture. We use our physical bodies to interact with reality, and Embodied Interaction, a subfield of Interaction Design, explores this physical presence in the digital world. This proposal aims at a speculative and exploratory approach to physical computing as a creative medium for art and design. The proposal fits the goals of the CDV Lab (CMS/CISUC) research laboratory, which brings together Computer Scientists, Graphic Designers, and New Media Artists to explore areas such as generative and computational art and design.
Objetivo
Design and development of a computational system that has the goal of exploring new forms of tangible interaction within an interactive art context, having the interpretation and representation of the external inputs on large format displays as a starting point. It is intended that the system explores the relationship between the digital and physical environment, and provides an opportunity to perceive the digital environment in a physical, manipulable form. For that, a design-driven approach to physical computing will be explored through rapid prototyping techniques. In this process, Computational Design techniques will be explored for the generation of the visual artifacts. Attention to experimental typography will be given in the conception of the physical and visual artifacts. The goal is to create new ways of meaningful interaction with technology by allowing users to manipulate novel physical controllers that play with digital information. Collaborative and educational possibilities may also be explored.
