Enquadramento

EMG are sensors that measure muscle activity. By putting 2 sensors around hand or foot, one can detect the hand/foot gestures. For instance if the hand is open, or close or if you are pointing to a direction with the index finger. If you search Myo Armband, you are able to understand better the system.

In this way, by putting it around your arm, you can play music, control your TV, or your mobile phone, or play games only by moving your hand or your foot.

Our team has developed and tested a hardware for EMG. Now the goal is to take it to the market as a open-software solution.

Objetivo

Our team has developed and tested a hardware for EMG. Now the goal is to take it to the market as a open-software solution.

The objective of this task is then to develop a web platform which can receive members, and developers who can provide different versions of the software for various applications: Music, Games, etc.

The second objective is to design multimedia, such as Images, Videos of the system. There will be chances that the team launches a Kick Starter Campaign.

Plano de Trabalhos - Semestre 1

1. To use the existing hardware and software and understand the system components
2. To plan development of web platform, Multimedia, and Videos
3. Start development of Web platform

Plano de Trabalhos - Semestre 2

1. Conclude and test the web platform including receiving codes from different members
2. Conclude making 3-4 videos of 2 minutes each for promotion

Condições

Student should have a good taste on design of multi-media and some proficiency in web design including data base.

Observações

Laboratory of Robotics and Mechanism of ISR-UC has close collaborations with the Carnegie Mellon University in the areas related with soft electronics, soft hands, Tactile sensing, Human Machine Interaction, novel interactive concepts, and is constantly looking for talented students to join the team.

In the Laboratory you find an excellent range of prototyping equipment, including four different 3D printers, Laser cutting Machine, Polymer processing equipment for casting sculptures and sensors, a wide range of electronics hardware for human machine interaction.
Students are welcome to visit the lab and the hardware before making a decision. Just send an email to mahmoud@isr.uc.pt

Also since the proposals are advertised also for Erasmus Students, students are advised to talk to us and also to select more than one project from our list as option 2 and 3.
