Enquadramento

The student will be working, investigating and developing a prototype within a team. The main focus of his work will be as an interactive and visual designer, focused in interaction design and interactive media. He will work in one of the research projects bellow (the project should be define before the student start the second semester).
The projects:
Panic Button Client: Fields of View (Indian students)/Cisco/Hogeschool van Amsterdam-Creative Industries Focus: How can we increase the objective and subjective safety of women in public space using an accessory they can easily carry around on a daily basis?
Project Rio - The Future Now Client: TWC Focus: How can the virtual experience of sports events you watch at home be enriched by the possibilities of connected devices?
Kijkradio Client: Kijkradio Focus: How can we embed serious games in elementary education to faster media literacy?
Games 4 Health Client: Play the City Focus: How can we simulate healthy behaviour by combining QS data with game elements?
Hybrid City Client: Designthinkersgroup Focus: How can we cover the digital and physical network of creative industries in Amsterdam and develop innovative means to make them available to young creative professionals?

Internship Localization
The internship will take place at MediaLAB Amsterdam, in the center of the Amstelcampus Amsterdam. Studio HvA, Wibautstraat 2-4, 1091 GM, Amsterdam.
Context
The aim of this proposal is to give the student the opportunity of developing interactive work, with real clients and under the coordination of experts.

Objetivo

MediaLAB Amsterdam conducts applied research on innovative interactive media applications together with partners from the creative industries and education. The research projects focus on urban screens, locative media, data visualization, interactive TV, gaming, the future of publishing and e-learning. At their core, the focus of all research projects is the innovative character of the digital applications.
Students work in multidisciplinary teams guided by experts from the industry and the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences. These experts are a mix of designers, programmers, social/digital media experts, researchers, copywriters and storytellers. In twenty weeks (one semester) the team develops a working prototype for a client in collaboration them.

Plano de Trabalhos - Semestre 1

Phase 1 - Bibliographic review and state-of-the-art.
Phase 2 - Requirements gathering.
Phase 3 - Identification of the most appropriate technology solutions. Phase 4 - Thesis proposal.

Plano de Trabalhos - Semestre 2

Phase 5 - Development, test and validation of the prototype.
Phase 6 - Solution development according to the initial proposal.
Phase 7 - Usability tests.
Phase 8 - Writing the thesis.

Condições

The team works five days a week in Studio HvA or at the client’s office. Additionally, the student has one day a week to work individually on the documentation of their internship or graduation project. The program is in English and available to all final year students from (Applied) Universities.
