A rational use of energy and the development of new paradigms for mobility are at the centre of construction of a sustainable World.
This project comprises the development of a layer on top of a sharing platform that receives information on individual patterns of mobility (e.g. individual GPS traces), information on public transports, weather and other data on the urban space and proposes the best mobility choice for the user’s frequent trips.
The system should also give information on the impact of the user decisions concerning the environment, financial and time dimensions.
From the beginning the system must be implemented as a collaborative platform that evolves along the project to acquire new kinds of data and to offer new services.
A pilot community will be settled at Polo II.
Objetivo
Along the project the student will be encouraged to acquire a deep understanding on the state of the art solutions concerning to sustainable use of energy and efficient and cleaner transportation systems.
From the computational side the student will take advantage on the latest developments on sensor networks and ubiquitous computing for the development of mobility solutions that are effective and easily adopted by the common citizen.
This project involves working with GPS traces and other data on mobility and city dynamics, comparing and extracting patterns from these data and detecting similarities and shared solutions.
This project is directly related to the CityMotion and iTEAM projects, being developed as a collaboration between FCTUC/DEI, IST, FEUP, MIT Sensible City Lab, and MIT ITS Lab.
Plano de Trabalhos - Semestre 1
During the first semester, the student will perform the following tasks:
- September 18th – Overview on other collaborative platforms for mobility (2 weeks)
- October 10th - Development of version alfa of SmartRides ( 4 weeks)
- November 30th - State of the art (1.5 months)
- December 30th - Version beta of SmartRides and setup of a pilot community at Polo II
- January 15th - Paper submission (2 months)
- February 27th - Intermediate report including requirements specification for version 1 of SmartRides (1 month)
Plano de Trabalhos - Semestre 2
During the second semester, the student will perform the following tasks:
- March 30th – Engagement of new communities and analysis of user's feedback (1 months)
- May 30th - Implementation of version 2 (2.5 months)
- June 30th – Experiments. (1.5 months)
- July 10th - MSc thesis (1 months)
