Enquadramento

The project main goal is to develop a Game-Based Learning platform for Marine Pollution Control simulation as a scenario to build team operational coordination. This is a tool for Game-Based Learning (GBL) that allows skills development of first-responder teams and management teams under complex multiplayer scenarios, based on a discrete event simulation methodology;
GBL is a scenario-based gamification approach that aims towards individual and collective experience and improvement of operational coordination in context. The creation of realistic simulation game scenarios with replayable potential can be based on a digital twin approach to modeling and simulation of real world phenomena (actors, organizational structures, physical environments, actions and resources, etc).
By empowering participants with an adaptable perception-action paradigm, we will enable continued and more efficient collective training and self-evaluation, when compared to real world week/month long physical drills.

Objetivo

The global objective of the project is the development of a simulation game for training and decision support in operational coordination scenarios in combating maritime pollution. In this context, this stage is proposed to achieve the objective of project, development and essay, of an editor for definition and generation of game scenarios, guided by the user. This paper aims to provide game scenarios, based on which the simulator module calculates the responses to the actions (events) of the various agents in the theater of operations. It is intended to develop an information model common to the multiplayer game project based on a discrete event paradigm, allowing the specification of game scenarios based on starting conditions, and a set of possible transitions . Based on the common information model, a visual editing interface of the scenarios and a scenario generation algorithm (exploiting a human-computing co-creative approach, for example, using Mixed-Initiative Content Generation) Based on reference scenarios with interest for operational coordination training in the specified domain.

Plano de Trabalhos - Semestre 1

- Get acquainted with the MPCS project
- Study marine pollution operational scenarios
- Define common information model for the game scenarios
- Write intermediate report

Plano de Trabalhos - Semestre 2

- Implement the proposed information model
- Design and develop visual editor for game scenarios
- Design and test a co-creativity scenario generation approach based on mixed-initiative PCG
- Assess the proposed editor user experience (usability + creativity support index)
- Write dissertation and scientific paper
