Enquadramento

The number of smart systems connected to the Internet of Things (IoT) is expected to grow significantly in the near future, as objects become part of the Internet themselves. As electronic devices with communication facilities get embedded into the physical world, the virtual world gets linked to the physical world, allowing unprecedented new applications, in the common paradigm of the Internet of Things, IoT.
Smart systems interconnected through the IoT will be the future of the Internet. In the IoT paradigm, an enormous amount of networking sensors are embedded into various devices and machines in the real world. Such sensors deployed in different fields may collect various kinds of data, such as environmental data, geographical data, astronomical data, and logistic data. Mobile equipments, transportation facilities, public facilities, and home appliances could all be data acquisition equipments in IoT.

Objetivo

The extremely varied nature of technologies that compose the current IoT in terms of protocols and capabilities brings enormous challenges to application developers who have to cope with this heterogeneity explicitly. Moreover, IoT, being linked to the physical world, implies extreme dynamicity in terms of operational conditions, like network load and availability, presence of nodes, amount and type of information flow and, last but not least, security and privacy capabilities.
In this project, we propose mechanisms for adaptation construct the models, heuristics and machine learning that are used for organic adaptation. Important tasks related to this are monitoring, testing, diagnosing and applying the adaptation heuristics. The idea is that devices, software, or services can configure, evaluate, and adaptively reconfigure themselves in response to changes in performance, resource availability, or external dynamics.
