Enquadramento
This work concerns the design and development of technology-enabled products and services that are ethically responsible. It directly relates to areas such as Human-Computer Interaction, Participatory Design, and Ethics. If you are interested and proud yourself to be involved in the creation of solutions that are respectful of ethics, sustainability, and participation, this is the project for you!
Digital technologies are nowadays a pervasive and significant part of our everyday life. As technology reaches into every aspect of our daily lives, the ethical and moral responsibilities of designers increase. Since, designers project and develop the tools of tomorrow, designers will also be ultimately shaping society. An important framework that was put together to deal with the ethical dilemmas that can emerge in this context is In-Action Ethics. This framework has identified some of the key qualities to be considered by teams while designing and developing products and services.
Building upon this framework and other similar ones, this dissertation will contribute to the development of In-Action Ethics by creating and validating a series of visual instruments that can support teams while going about their design and development processes (e.g. https://www.ethicsfordesigners.com/). These instruments will consist of a series of canvas, i.e. visual guides, that capture, describe, and assess the main steps into developing an ethical and responsible design process.
