Enquadramento
The electrical energy bill strongly depends on the tariff structure selected by the user. The best way to manage the tariff structure is having an energy monitoring system providing the energy consumption profile over a month or year and superposing on it the different electricity tariff structures available on the market. Although monitoring systems are well developed and being largely used, online applications to predict/compute the energy bill for different tariffs is not so common.
Objetivo
In this project, an online application to process useful calculation and predict the active and reactive energy cost of facilities with electrical energy monitoring systems is to be developed, for industrial, tertiary and domestic sectors. This application should enable users to test/simulate different electrical energy tariff structures, supporting the management of the energy contracts. Furthermore, the users should be able to simulate the impact of power factor correction on the electricity bill. The online monitoring system is already operational.
Plano de Trabalhos - Semestre 1
1st Semester
Task 1, 0.5 month – Understanding of the monitoring solutions used by the company.
Task 2, 1 month – Definition of the variables and structures associated with the energy tariffs in the European Union and USA/Canada.
Task 3, 1.5 month – Development of computing flowcharts and interfaces.
Task 4, 2.5 months – Implementation and testing of the developed online application.
Task 5, 0.5 month – Partial report. Thesis structure draft.

2nd Semester
Task 6, 2 month – Development of an automatic system to alert the user for potential cost reduction within a given tariff (in relation to the actual tariff), taking into account the energy consumption profile and using direct online update of the energy prices.
Task 7, 1 month – Development of additional computing flowcharts and interfaces.
Task 8, 2 months – Upgrade/improvement of the developed application.
Task 9, 1 month – Thesis writing.
