Enquadramento

Game programming is a hard and
tedious task
of anticipating every possible course of action we want to make
available and
translating that into specific code associated with objects modeled in
the
environment, often leading to sequential input processing loop. Petri
Nets are
a formal construct that enables an economic and formal way of
specifying
concurrent behaviors and we have been able to use them with advantage
in game
design specifications.

Objetivo

This proposes a Design Research exercise for an
easy to
learn and easy to use, Petri Net based, behavior modeling interface for
game
specification that can be interpreted and tested at runtime. To achieve
this we
will adapt an existing open source Petri Net simulator and focus on
designing a
tool to enable drawing and drag&drop of Petri Nets, as behavior
models on
objects, for experimentation with an existing game engine.

Plano de Trabalhos - Semestre 1

A1. State of the art research - document identifying relevant SoA, publications and software review, for the study of the problem at hand
A2. Detailed proposal drafting - detailed characterization of the problem to be solved stating specific goals, assumptions and milestones for the rest of the project
A3. Initial Design - identifications of quality attributes, architectural drivers and initial design for the proposed solution, including interaction models and user interface draft

Plano de Trabalhos - Semestre 2

A4. Prototyping - implementation and testing of a working prototype
A5. Evaluation - definition of evaluation criteria and method, performance and analysis
A6. Statement of Learning - production of thesis with process report and reflection on knowledge production
