Enquadramento

The work to be performed is integrated within the Eureka-Eurostars project OUTERMOST and aims at the study of optimization mechanisms for the control of industrial processes within the context of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT).

Objetivo

The master's thesis work will consist in the study of optimization mechanisms for the control of industrial processes within the context of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). In a first phase, requirements for the IIoT scenario will be identified, including the characterization of the data collected by the industrial sensors as well as the actuation tasks to be performed. Issues such as the amount of data collected, aggregation points, and the latency involved in communications should be considered. This task will require a close interaction with the international partners of the project. Requirements definition will motivate the analysis of the state-of-the-art on optimization solutions for industrial process control within IIoT. Based on this analysis, a first set of approaches will be selected and evaluated. One of the main challenges of this thesis will be the use of real data, collected in the industrial environment, which will provide a unique context for the validation of the different approaches. The results of this thesis will be presented to the project partners and it is planned the most adequate will be selected to be integrated on the final prototype to be implemented in the industrial premises.
