Enquadramento

Transportation of gods is one vital piece in today’s world economy. Every single day, thousands of vessels travel the oceans with different types of merchandise. Unfortunately, not all of these activities present standard movements. Anomalous movements can have different origins, and the illegal ones have been the target of different studies. With the implementation of the Automatic Identification System (AIS), the track of vessels’ movements, met a new and important episode and made research in this area appealing.

Objetivo

The main goal of this work is exploring different visualization techniques for the detection of anomalous vessels movements in Portugal maritime land. Using data from AIS, the goal is to help the Portuguese maritime authorities in their law enforcement activities.
To fulfill this goal, different anomalous vessels movements will be detected, including (but are not limit to) vessels malfunctions, illegal activities like drug trafficking, and fishing.

Plano de Trabalhos - Semestre 1

1: Study of different machine learning techniques applied to the identification of anomalous vessels movements
2: Study of different kind of visualization techniques applied to the anomalous vessels movement detection
3:Select an AIS dataset that will be used in this project
4:Creation and validation of the project work plan

Plano de Trabalhos - Semestre 2

1: Implement and test different vessels movement identification approaches
2: Implement and test different visualization approaches emphasizing the anomalous vessels movements.
3:Writing a scientific article and dissertation

Condições
