BCI (Brain-Computer Interface) technology has a great potential in applications designed for helping people with high degree of disability, since it allows the control of physical devices. It is important to study the use of such interface in order to evolve it into fully-functional interface for various applications in that context. We propose to test BCI technologies as interaction interfaces for educational and entertainment games for children with disabilities, in the context of APCC.

Objetivo

The objective is to develop a BCI-based control approach for a remotely controlled car system (CarMiRace). The BCI signaling mechanisms were already developed, the goal is to develop the game, integrating the BCI. The objective of the system is to provide therapeutic/entertainment mechanisms for children with disabilities in their daily activities within the APCC. CarMiRace requires many subareas of research, such as human-robot interaction, wireless sensor networks and mobility. The integration of the hardware and software components is required, and an approach for human-machine interaction must be developed. Since the system is intended to be used especially by children suffering from a high degree of disability (e.g. children which are quadriplegic, have muscle diseases or serious paralysis due to strokes or many other diseases with similar consequences for their autonomy), a non-invasive Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) is investigated.
